Last updated: 8/24/2025

Notetaker (“we,” “our,” or “us”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our website, Chrome extension, and related services.

1. Information We Collect

We may collect the following types of information:

  • Account Information
When you sign up or log in through our site, we receive basic information from our authentication provider (AWS Cognito), such as your email address, username, and subscription tier.
  • User-Provided Content
When you upload files (such as CSV, JSON, or HTML) through our website or Chrome extension, we temporarily process and store them on our secure servers (AWS S3) to generate reports and analysis.
  • Usage Data
We may collect limited technical information, such as browser type, device, and usage activity, to improve performance and security.
  • Cookies & Local Storage
Our website and extension may use cookies or local storage for login sessions and preferences.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide and improve our services (including file processing and analytics).
  • Authenticate users and enforce subscription tiers.
  • Deliver reports, dashboards, and insights.
  • Maintain security, prevent fraud, and comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your data to third parties.

3. How We Store and Protect Information

  • All uploaded files are stored in encrypted AWS S3 buckets with strict access controls.
  • Uploaded data is automatically deleted after a defined retention period (typically 30 days).
  • Authentication and session management are handled securely through AWS Cognito.
  • We apply industry-standard security measures, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS).

4. Data Sharing

We do not share your personal data with third parties except:

  • Service Providers: We use AWS (S3, Lambda, Cognito) to operate our platform.
  • Legal Compliance: If required by law, regulation, or legal process.

We do not share your Substack handle, files, or reports with advertisers or data brokers.

5. Chrome Extension Permissions

Our Chrome extension:

  • Runs only on Substack domains that you own/manage.
  • Collects content (such as notes and analytics data) only when you explicitly initiate a scrape or export.
  • Sends collected data securely to our backend for processing, subject to the same retention and deletion rules as above.

The extension does not:

  • Monitor your browsing activity outside of Substack.
  • Collect passwords, financial data, or unrelated personal information.

6. Your Rights and Choices

You may:

  • Access and update your account information.
  • Request deletion of your data before the standard retention period.
  • Cancel your subscription or close your account at any time.

To exercise these rights, contact us at [Insert Contact Email].

7. Children’s Privacy

Our services are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
